Greek and Italian Wedding Days at Jumeirah Carlton Tower London

By London Wedding Photographer, Wedding VenuesNo Comments

Well 2016 certainly has been a year of variety for us in the wedding world and very very busy, but it has also been a year full of Greek and Italian weddings too. We don’t think there’s any real reason for that apart from the fact it’s a bit like waiting for a London bus, nothing comes out of the traffic for a while, and then what do you know it’s four in a row! Yes we get a lot of recommendations from couples and their families but the last few special days have either been Greek or Italian or a fusion of both, and that was purely coincidental.

For Lorietta and Nick their special day was a long time in the planning and was to be a respectful mix of Nick’s Greek heritage and  Lorietta’s Italian roots. The brief was to capture a combination of quality reportage photography and couple shots, with a classic and romantic style. It’s always good to know and discuss the overall style goals beforehand and we are used to following a brief, but of course bringing our own interpretation to the day too.

Proceedings began in Potters Bar Hertfordshire with Nick’s traditional Greek dressing ceremony, which consists of a wet share with cut throat razor and dressing and blessing from groomsmen friends and family.

Next we drove to cover Lorietta’s bridal preparation at her parents house in Broxbourne. A beautiful home that her parents basically built themselves – very impressive.

After that it was time to beat both bride and groom to the ceremony held at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Church of All Saints in Camden Town, London. A very grand setting for a grand wedding ceremony, and after confetti throwing and some family shots inside everyone headed to the reception at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel at 1 Cadogan Place in central London.

The Jumeirah is a a spotless and classy hotel befitting of a reception for a large scale Italian and Greek fusion wedding.

Plan A was that we would do some couple shots in the nearby private gardens however once we arrived, so did the torrential rain. So to Plan B which were photos around the hotel and reception room itself, while guests enjoyed drinks and canapés upstairs.

The wedding breakfast was again a suitably classic and grand affair, and afterwards everyone enjoyed traditional Greek and Italian dances. Great to work with Special Occasion Videos once again: Special Occasion Videos

Wedding at Silvermere Inn on the Lake for Nadia and Steven

Italian wedding ceremony London and Woking

Our friend and fantastic video cinematographer John De Rienzo of De Rienzo Films told me, as a long standing and active member of the Italian community of Woking and surrounding area, that there were three Italian weddings around Woking the same date as Nadia and Steven’s big day. However as myself and Joanna were the chosen photographers, and bearing in mind the fact we give a hundred percent and build a great relationship with our brides and grooms, we can confidently say that this particular celebration was the best Italian wedding in Woking!

Wedding at Silverware on the lake Woking

A great many of our weddings are in central London these days, but we are always delighted to work in the home counties too. Knowing we would have to negotiate the M25 the morning of the big day we decided to leave nothing to chance and stayed the night in central Woking.

The mornings coverage started at Nadia’s parents house, a place full of love laughter and friends and family busy getting ready. There was much meeting and greeting and eating and drinking lovely traditional Italian fayre, including some fantastic biscuits! Nadia’s family are originally from Sicily, a country Joanna and I have visited recently and loved greatly, it’s such a unique place.

After capturing Nadia, bridesmaids and the families preparations and then the arrival of the wedding car, we shot off to St Dunstans Church Woking, to catch the arrival of guests and of course Steven and his groomsmen’s final preparations before the grand arrival of the bride.

After a lovely heartfelt service the newly weds were showered with rice and confetti as they made their way to their vintage wedding car and the start of their journey to the reception venue. The place to eat drink celebrate and make merry was one of Woking’s most popular: Silvermere Inn on the Lake. It’s a wedding venue, place to wine and dine and a fantastic golf course too, all nestled by a stunning lake setting. It’s easy to see why Nadia and Steven would have chosen such a place to complete their wedding day festivities.

Silvermere’s wedding co-ordinator was incredibly helpful to both the couple and ourselves throughout the day, and the food service and general management was fantastic. Naturally we captured lots of special moments and details, along with time alone with the bride and groom around the grounds of this fantastic setting. Many great Italian wedding traditions were faithfully followed, including the fun tapping of cutlery plates and glasses etc to get the couple to stand up and kiss each other, and of course getting showered with party paraphenalia for the first dance. Nadia danced with her father straight after for another special Italian tradition, which was moving in all senses of the word and got the party for the evening started in earnest!

Engagement shoot in Trent Park north London

It goes without saying of course that we love a home counties or London wedding, but almost as much as that, we really enjoy our London engagement shoots. This particular day the chosen venue was Trent Park in the borough of Enfield. It’s a lovely spot with real variety in its terrain, from shaded woodland to open fields, a small lake, and some public spaces and cafes.

Here is Giulia and Antonio who were married at St Peters Italian church in Clerkenwell and then on to the fabulous Landmark Hotel on Marylebone road central London. As theirs was an urban wedding we decided that countryside would be a nice contrast to what was to come on the big date.

Hertfordshire engagement shoot by Trent lake

On the day of their traditional Italian wedding we were delighted to see that in a reception area of the Landmark that the newlyweds had created a signing book full of their favourite images from this shoot. It’s a great idea to use engagement images in that way and of course they can be used for invitation or thank you cards as well. Although we are very experienced at quickly putting people at ease on their wedding days some couples find it reassuring to have spent photography time with us beforehand. If nothing else it affirms to them how fun and undaunting in the right hands it can be.

We create spontaneous moments, but we also gently direct too because understandably most people have not thought about factors such as composition, lighting, flattering poses and angles when taking the average iphone shot! Trent Park is one of our favourite venues for this kind of engagement shoot and it is non weather dependent. We know this because we have actually photographed here in torrential rain! The couple on that day were completely unfazed and wanted to carry on, and we consequently had a great time. It made everything else on their actual wedding day and our time around the Tower Bridge area shooting a breeze!
