Best London wedding venues

Best London wedding venue banner shot

Don’t get us wrong stately homes and barns are great for weddings, we photograph in those venues all the time of course. But if you live in and around the greatest city in the world, London, then why not take a look at some of the weird wonderful and historic treasures the capital has to offer. Best London wedding venues is naturally a subjective opinion, but it’s one that’s based on working regularly in a large variety of celebration spaces that our city has to offer.

If your ceremony is church based then it’s going to be a reception only venue you would need to choose. However if it’s a civil ceremony then a whole smorgasbord of venue possibilities awaits you. Do we get married in one place then celebrate and eat at another? Or do we make sure we don’t lose any of our guests on the way and do everything in the same place!?

First port of call probably for many is to research London’s long tradition of event hosting in some of its most iconic hotels. We have worked in most, but are going to list some of our personal favourites. This takes into account the overall wedding photography experience for ourselves and also for our couples and their guests too.

Wedding ceremony longroom Lords

The Savoy
Play place of the rich and famous for over a century now, it’s licenced for wedding ceremonies and of course you would be celebrating your day and enjoying your wedding breakfast in style. There’s also the Gordon Ramsay managed Savoy Grill in house too. Here’s a recent blog post we did on this great hotel: Savoy Hotel wedding photographer

The Dorchester

Opulent, traditional, with another long history taking in film stars and presidents, it’s one of Park Lane’s best wedding venues. Great catering and a lovely private roof terrace too. See our Dorchester Hotel wedding post here: Dorchester Hotel wedding photographer

The Waldorf Astoria.

Long established Waldorf (always make us think of the Fawlty Towers episode “Waldorf Salad”)
It has the most fantastic atrium, a grand space great for ceremonies. With the grand ballroom/dining room nearby.

Lord’s Cricket Ground

You don’t need to be a cricket fan to appreciate the splendour of your ceremony and reception in the famous Long Room. Bride and groom can get themselves ready in the England dressing room, and guests can wander round the fantastic cricket museum in the middle of the wedding day. Here’s a relevant article David wrote recently: Lords Cricket ground wedding photographer

Gibson Hall

Formally a grand banking Hall in the city’s financial district, it is now a grand and imposing wedding venue. There is also an internal garden for your wedding ceremony should you choose to have your whole day there. Plenty of space for the biggest occasions.

Landsdowne Club

Now a fantastic private members club in the heart of Mayfair it was at one time the home of the department store magnate Mr Selfridge. Fantastic art deco function hall and Georgian drawing rooms for your London civil ceremony.

Hoxton

Buzzing full of art spaces and galleries that will host your wedding reception, and great urban locations for wedding photography with a difference.

London Zoo

We went there as children, took our own four children, and go there now as wedding photographers. Get married there and then have you and your guests tour the zoo for free before sitting down to a fantastic wedding breakfast. There’s even an exclusive meerkat experience should you feel the need…. Here’s some images from our photographic trips to the zoo: London Zoo wedding photographer

Planes, trains, and St Pancras

Watch this space as we update soon with recent St Pancras weddings. You have the fantastic hotel to get married in, and should you fancy a wander then the station itself is yours to spend time with your chosen photographer (that would be David and Joanna right…?)

Of course this is by no means an exhaustive list, but it has definitely some of the best London wedding venues that we have enjoyed lately. The other bonus of having a central London wedding is that you could spend twenty to thirty minutes of the day getting out and about for your photography, be it famous landmarks, or the royal parks. The possibilities are literally endless, because the best venue of all is London itself!

Fanhams Hall Wedding Photographer

Fanhams Hall Wedding Photographers

As frequent Fanhams Hall Wedding Photographers we always look forward to returning to one of Ware’s greatest assets. Inside it is a fantastic and tasteful mix of the old and the new. Glass and steel is imaginatively mixed with oak panelling and leaded windows. Outside, the grounds feel like they have been made for Hertfordshire wedding photographers! They are large, varied and beautiful come rain shine or snow. We should know having photographed them in all three! Thankfully not on the same day though. A typical English day and also a typically quirky time weather wise for Kristy and Alun’s wedding featured here, and also Laura and David and Jenny and Dan’s from this March 2014. A little bit of rain, gusty wind, cloud and then periods of brilliant sunshine. It’s all in days work for David and Joanna then….

Personally we love the fountains and iron gates, the Japanese gardens and bridges and the imposing backdrop of Fanhams itself which lends historical class to any wedding taking place there. Every time we return we find something new and fresh for photography there.

The building itself is eighteen century in origin and built in the famous Queen Anne style. It was the birth place and home of Lord Croft and has also been the residence for branches of the Brockett family. As Brockett Hall wedding photographers we would be hard pressed to choose which of the two would be our favourite. Either would be an excellent choice for a wedding day.

Hotel La Tartane wedding

Beautiful beautiful St Tropez….Although the majority of our work is as London wedding photographers, its great to travel too. We are asked mostly by UK couples living abroad, or those planning a special destination venue for their big day. On those especially memorable weekends like this one, we can say we are a St Tropez wedding photographer…for two days.

St tropez wedding preparation shot

Colin originally from north London and Ali Scottish born and bred both now live in Holland. They had scoured Europe for their perfect wedding destination and came across the Saint Amour La Tartane in St Tropez: ( La Tartane St Tropez )

The couple decided the most important thing for them was to spend as much quality time with their friends and families as possible. With that goal in mind they booked out the entire 5 star La Tartane Hotel for themselves. Everything from the preparations, ceremony to the asian themed evening reception happened at the hotel, with the focus being around the lovely petal strewn pool!

Central London Weddings

Central London Weddings

Cavendish Square Wedding

“Hi David and Joanna, the pictures are absolutely amazing!” This is the kind of email feedback that makes London wedding photography so rewarding for myself and Joanna, This was from Hanieh and Sia featured in this blog post, one of six central London weddings that we had the pleasure of photographing in the month of December. Their wedding started at 4.30 pm at 5 Cavendish Square  (5 Cavendish Square ) and our first task was to photograph them around the historic square in the dark, in the alloted 15 minutes we had. Experience, pre planning, good lighting and technique allowed us to surpass what we were all aiming to achieve.

So with fifteen minutes outside and ten minutes inside we were given the usual amount of time that were are used to shoot “couple” shots in a a typical wedding timescale. These are the  kind of photos that feature quite heavily in our galleries and website. The rest of the time we are shooting in a contemporary documentary style, which looks easy but to truely do well takes a lot of experience!

The couple had a lovely Persian wedding ceremony which is tradionally spent seated in front of a sumptuously decorated wedding table. Friends and family (and your photographers…) congregate around the sides.

After a busy time for us photographing reportage style the champagne reception afterwards. we all headed for the main reception Vanilla ( Vanilla ). Vanilla is a fantastic, discreet and glamourous venue. Quality food and drink flowed in abundance, and the endlessly motivated staff there work tirelessly to make an evening run smoothly.

Greek Wedding Photographer London – Saint Sophia Cathedral Bayswater

Greek Wedding Photographer London

Well we have spent some happy and memorable times at Saint Sophia’s in Bayswater, both as a Greek wedding photographer and also as guests for friend’s christenings and weddings.
Classic Greek Wedding London

David has had a long association with the Greek Cypriot community, from meeting his best friend Andreas at school to subsequently working in his father Costas’s Greek Restaurant as a teenager. He also ran a business in association with the Niarchos family throughout the 1990’s. Joanna on the other hand just likes a good moussaka! Yasou!
Saint_Sophia_Wedding_London

The lovely and lucky couple at Saint Sophia this day were Maria and Dimitri. We knew each other well from our previous engagement shoot in Trent Park, and had planned together far in advance for the tight timescale we had. Armed with our London professional photography licence for the day, we headed the short distance to Hyde Park for our couple shots. It’s a busy place so it is as much about relaxing your newly weds to get great shots, as it is dealing with the general public to let us use the areas they are eating their picnics on! We cleared a lot of wrappers and coke cans away for the shot below.
