Hampstead Wedding Photographer

There is no denying that Hampstead is a great place to live, work and visit. We should know as we have done all three of those things over the years. As a Hampstead wedding photographer we love the look, variety and history of the place.

So as well as eating drinking and sleeping there at various points in our lives, we are regularly walking our dogs and children across the heath and around Kenwood House.   Kenwood, Burgh House (off New End) or one of the boroughs varied churches and hotels are greatplaces for a Hampstead wedding ceremony or reception.

There are also some lovely hidden spots for those special couple focused wedding shots. If you can spare twenty to twenty-five minutes during the wedding day timetable then we can use our experience and creativity to work our magic. We have included shots from a typical example of this in the blog post, all of which were photographed in Hampstead.

If you are interested in booking a Hampstead wedding photographer and hiring a fantastic looking venue then you may wish to take a look at Kenwood House or Burgh House through the two following links: Kenwood and Burgh House

A little bit of history: Hampstead has always been home to artists, actors, musicians and the well healed of London. In fact now Hampstead apparently has more millionaires per square metre than anywhere else in the United Kingdom. However the price of a coffee in Hampstead village is still very reasonable, unlike Saint Tropez where we did a wedding recently! The wonderful heath is one of the largest and most beautiful open spaces in London and along with the village has been the location for countless films including American Werewolf in London and Notting Hill.

Lord’s Cricket Ground Wedding

Lord’s Cricket Ground Wedding

There’s probably no denying that a Lord’s Cricket Ground wedding is something special. Unlike a great many usual or iconic wedding venues, the world’s oldest and most famous ground aka “the home of cricket” is only available a select amount of times a year. Add to this the fact that you and your guests will get exclusive access to the England dressing rooms, members bar and the renowned Long Room for both ceremony and reception celebrations, all makes for a wedding with a difference.

Lords_Cricket_Ground_Wedding

You don’t need to be a cricket fan to appreciate the ambience, views and general Victorian splendour of a ground world renowned since 1814. However for those with a love or interest of the sport, during a Lords cricket ground wedding your guests can have a complimentary guided tour of the cricket museum and grounds before the wedding day breakfast.

The most famous part of Lords is the Pavilion stand built in 1889 and grade 2 listed. It’s here that houses the splendid Long Room through which cricketers on match day walk through and back on their way to the crease. Decorating the walls is a fantastic selection of cricket related paintings, and an unprecedented view of the cricket pitch and stands. The members bar behind the Long Room is impressive in its own right and perfect for that “restorative” tipple!

Goring Hotel Wedding Photographer

As a Goring Hotel wedding photographer it is a particular pleasure to know the pedigree and history of the place you are working in. Close to Buckingham Palace it has been run by the Goring family for over a hundred years and has frequently played host to Royalty, prime ministers, stars and the discerning, most recently Kate Middleton the night before her wedding to William. Well the Royalty in attendance for us this special occasion was Sally and Paul, a lovely couple, but no relation to the Windsors!

Goring Hotel Wedding Photographer

Many newlyweds who wish to add a touch of London sparkle and history choose the Goring for their reception venue. Some however also elect to have their ceremony itself in the intimate but lovely interior of the hotel, and this was certainly the case for Sally and Paul.

Wedding at the Goring Hotel London

Sally stayed the night herself in preparation at the hotel while Paul arrived on the day. First task for David and Joanna (that’s us by the way….) was to see how Sally was getting on in her room with twin sister and chief bridesmaid Lucy. After a series of “prep” shots to start telling the story of the big day, we shot some wonderfully atmospheric images in the light filled corridor outside her room. After a while David went looking for Paul and best man Richard for the “boys” pics.

And so it went on for the day, a division of labour between ourselves. Whether it is being in two different places at once, covering the same spaces from different angles and view points (i.e the ceremony) or just ourselves as a couple photographing a couple, with all the understanding that brings, two is most certainly greater than one….

UPDATE: After reading this blog post Paul and Sally sent us the following email:

“Hi David & Joanna,

We’ve just sat down and watched the DVD’s – all we can say is WOW!

You have captured every possible moment of our special day and given us permanent reminders of so many fantastic memories.

So a very big “thank you” from us both. Also many thanks for creating the pics with Lucy.

With best regards,

Paul & Sally

PS – We love the blog!!”

Claridges Hotel Wedding Photographer

It seems that as a Claridges Hotel wedding photographer we are following around Gordon Ramsay managed in house restaurants at the moment! See our separate blog post about the SAVOY: Savoy Hotel Wedding Photographers to understand what we mean by that, and of course check out some of our work at other iconic central London hotels in the blog.

Claridges Hotel Wedding Photographer

Sometimes it happens that as busy London wedding photographers we will invariably work with couples in the public eye or sensitive employment positions. With that in mind if you would like to see some specific Claridges wedding photos then please email or use the contact page and we will be happy to send some. (Normally you would see specific examples on a blog post!) Chances are though that you will see from the examples in our galleries, or the many images contained in this blog the kind of quality you can expect from ourselves David and Joanna as your Time Out Recommended wedding photographers. For this reason the photo above is actually from a recent wedding at The Goring Hotel London – Kate Middleton’s pre wedding venue.

Claridges Hotel Wedding Photos

On the subject of Claridges, it had a rich and varied history, and for those that are interested: it is David Beckham’s favourite London Hotel when he’s back in his home town. Claridges started as a hotel with just a single house run by William and Marianne Claridge, but by it’s official opening during 1856 (in the basic form it is today) they had bought a further five properties around it!

Starting your big day with David & Joanna London Wedding Photographers

London Wedding Photographers opening blog image

“Getting ready”…”bridal prep”…these are just a couple of the often used phrases to describe that time when a bride is gearing up for her wedding day. But as any bride will tell you, that getting ready started months, sometimes years ago,  and the usual descriptions don’t do justice to the sense of “anticipation in the preparation” she will be feeling (we like that phrase especially as it rhymes!) Groom too of course…

West Lodge Wedding morning

It’s often quite a hustle and bustle time with all kinds of people arriving, family, bridesmaids, chauffeurs, lovely London wedding photographers like David and Joanna….as well as everything that “getting ready” really entails: makeup, hair, flowers arriving, gazing towards your dress hanging up, a trillion other things and then finally getting into it, usually surrounded by bridesmaids and mum partaking in the final big “button up”

Two things we feel are relevant to this part of the big day: firstly, it is our duty to capture all of this well and with artistry. Of course that’s a given, and we make sure we bring a combination of cameras and lenses to capture all the different flavours. Secondly, and also very important, is that we have a calming effect on the proceedings. We have been part of a large number of wedding days, and our goal is to add to the day with our experience. We work hard on your behalf, but we are calm relaxed people amid the organised chaos of the build up before the ceremony. This effect is contagious! We are your allies, and the more happy and relaxed you are, the better you will look in your photos.

It’s always good to get your tensions out of the way before leading your friends down the aisle….

Below shows a typical choice you have as far as how to display your images. Black and white often looks great for those “prep shots” and ceremony too, but as the example below shows it’s a positive problem choosing, because both look great.
